My Instead: I visited the Way of Lights at the
Shrine of Our Lady of Snows alone.
Where are kids when you need them? The Way of
Lights at the Shrine of Our Lady of Snows is the perfect place to capture the Christmas
spirit! But wait a minute…there’s still a kid in me! I can do this and I can do
it alone. My never-say-no companion, my camera, was by my side. We found out
that going to the Way of Lights after 9 o’clock on a cold Monday night was like
visiting a well-lighted ghost town.
One of the first things to see was the amazing
lighted Merry Christmas tunnel. I think this was my favorite of the whole
display. It was there that I entered the world of Christmas and what it really
means. I read all the signs depicting the birth of Jesus. Next was the
manger scene where I spent some quiet moments standing in the cold, but not really
dressed for it. When I started walking back to my car, I noticed a
lighted trail going up the hillside. I followed the path leading to the top and
paused to hear the quiet. On the way down, I wondered how many people actually
choose to spend time alone to reflect on life and its beyond. No people, no computers, no TVs, no books…just one
on one with the universe and its Source.
I love these moments when I get away from the
din of this world. I feel a connection to something out there that is incomprehensible,
but it’s there…and each day I (we) move toward it. We are welcomed, but are we
worthy?
