My Instead: I donated to the St. Louis Children's Hospital
Foundation.
Today in the mail, I received a pledge card asking for help with a
donation for the St. Louis Children's Hospital Foundation. I stood in my
kitchen and quietly read what varying amounts of money would provide. I planned
to give $25 as my small Christmas “give back a little” gift this year. I really
don’t think I’ve ever done this in the past and I felt that the timeliness of
this particular request was a sign for me to donate to them.
As I read the list of ways my gift would help, the $25 - $49 range
stated this: A meal for a family staying
with their child. I thought about my niece and the hardship for her young
family during the last 2 ½ years coping with her stepson’s leukemia. When a
child is stricken with a serious illness or injury, it is devastating. The suffering
presented to both child and family is unfathomable to me. I never had to endure
anything like this in my life and I am so grateful and blessed.
Today, I gave back a little by feeding a family that is not quite
so blessed.
