My Instead: I picked up trash outside a
McDonald's because it was there.
Seriously, Mary, you’re picking up trash again!
You’ve already done that.
Back on May 1st, I picked up several bags of trash on
an entire hillside along the Route 13 highway. Today was not quite such an endeavor.
I went through the drive-through at the McDonald’s to grab a quick hamburger.
When I pulled away from the window with my food, I spotted a bunch of trash on
the pavement beneath the trash can. I looked at it for a second and then got
out of my car, picked up the debris and stuffed it into the already stuffed
trash can.
It was like opening a door for a little old lady.
Or when somebody drops something right in front of you, you immediately go to
help them pick it up. It was just the right thing to do. The world would not
have ended had I not picked up that trash. And the world was not saved because
I did. I guess we just have to start somewhere…so, I thought, why not start with
me!
The little things are always out there waiting
to be done. What matters anyway, really?
