Day 99 ~ The Road Less Traveled

Day 99 ~ The Road Less Traveled
Apr 9, 2014
My first: I took a different and more scenic route in the morning to a job in another town.
As I begin each day knowing a “first” will be somewhere along the way, my blood starts convincing the brain to open up to the possibilities that await. If my first is already planned, I just go with it. When I have no idea what it will be, my mind gathers ideas from each thought that pays a visit.
I had a job in Millstadt and driving the highway I always do was lackluster to say the least. Time to shake it up a little! I knew of a back road called the Mine Haul Road; don’t get any ideas. That would be my new course to navigate. I couldn’t wait to get in the car, with camera in hand, and go to work.
The morning was about as pretty as it gets here in the Midwest. I was taking it all in and looking for the perfect shot or shots along the way to memorialize this trip. I spied on a duck minding his own business. There were tall grasses illuminated by the sun. Old sheds were framed in tree branches posing for my shot. Meadows were turning green with envy. Barns and silos patiently waited for the harvest. Naked trees stood tall and lean, looking starved from the cold winter. And I found my shadow waving to me!
There were cars passing, not seeming to be that interested in my Wednesday morning on-my-way to-work photo shoot. However, soon I noticed a police car on my tail! What was he doing on this country road at 8:15 in the morning? Did someone call the police and report a suspicious-looking woman roaming the countryside? I pulled over to take a shot and he went on by. I guess I looked pretty harmless. Certainly, there are better candidates than I to be put behind bars.
All during my travels that morning, I had “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves blasting on my CD player. My son Todd made me a CD many years ago with this little gem as the last song on the disk. That song, with its energy and its lyrics, is a remedy for almost anything that ails you. After all…
It’s “time to feel good!”
