My first: I cleaned Nadine’s house free of charge
Today I
cleaned a house for one of my more disabled clients, Nadine. When I was just
about done, she pulled out her checkbook. I immediately grabbed it and put it
back where it was. I told her that today’s cleaning was free of charge! She
said why and I told her that this is my “first” for the day. I had explained to
her earlier that I was doing something new every day this year. She started to
argue with me, but I told her that I was more stubborn than she was. She was
very surprised and appreciative. Jokingly, I told her that I do “firsts” but
not “seconds”…just so she knew that next time she would be charged. She
laughed. As I was leaving, she said she felt much better than she felt before I
got there. She was kind of having a “crabby” day until I got there. Her mood
didn’t change so much because of the “discount”, but because we had such a nice
chat while I was working. Again, time well spent with my friend, Nadine.
