Day 60 ~ Reach Out
Mar 1,
2014
My first:
I showed my appreciation to a friend.
Kelly is
my closest friend right now. Trust me, we've had our ins and outs during the 2 ½
years we’ve been friends. I guess our most difficult challenge is accepting
each other without all the expectations that go along with friendship when it
deepens. You know, it’s like a friendship can take the same turns that a relationship
does. You can reap the rewards from the familiarity and then trip over the obstacles
that surface from that same familiarity.
Well, I was
headed over to her house to watch a couple of movies and chill after working
for half a day on Saturday. I decided to create a “first” that shows love and
appreciation to my “go to” friend. I stopped at, of course, your local
Walgreens and looked for something personal to give Kelly. I found a card that
said it all and then a boomerang! The boomerang represents our “keep coming
back” friendship that we have.
I went
over to her house and finally gave her the card in the kitchen. I said the “pumps”
on the front of the card immediately made me think of her, LOL. She loved the
card with its message of friendship inside. I wrote on the underside that I’m
glad we keep coming back to each other. After she read that, I reached into the
back of my shirt and handed her the boomerang. She laughed her usual hardy
laugh. Mission accomplished…I reached her heart and her sense of humor.
This
event made me think of how many opportunities all of us miss reaching out to
one another. I am so blessed that I am doing these “firsts” each day now because
it opens up my heart to love and intimacy whereas before I was oblivious to
such wonders!
