Day 228 ~ Blind Leading the Blind

August 16, 2014

My Instead: I went on a nighttime excursion through the woods with my friend Annette.

It’s the weekend and I found myself in Farmington again visiting my friend Annette. We got to spend the day together and what a beautiful day it was! A scenic bike trail in town was voted the road “best” traveled, so we loaded up our bikes and followed our impulses to ride. The late afternoon sunlit trail was perfect for us to create another wonderful memory of “our beginning”.
When we got back to her place, we had a late dinner and then Annette made a little campfire in her pit. Surrounded by the smoke’s aroma and the evening’s display of heat lighting should have been enough to cap off a sumptuous Saturday. But there was still one thing left to do…my “instead”. I asked Annette if she had trails back in her woods and she said yes and that we could check them out the next day. When I asked her if she had a flashlight, she realized my intentions were not to wait…a late night stroll through her “back 40” was next on my agenda.
As we walked towards the clearing into her woods, Annette admitted that she had never been back there in the dark of night. I guess we were the “blind leading the blind”. But we both saw clearly that we were going to relish this experience because we were open to whatever it would bring. That is what I love about Annette...she’s open to anything as long as it’s not a danger or against the law. I’m good with that!
It amazed both Annette and me that something so simple lead to so much fun and adventure. As we discovered the wooded night, we also discovered more about each other…who we are separately and who we are together. Was it a bit scary out there in the dark? You bet. But it would have been scarier to have missed it!
