My Instead: I accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
It was another long day at the “office”. Well, painting trim at my
son’s house is not exactly office work. But…I’d rather be slapping on paint in
Kyle’s garage than sitting in some cubicle wishing that I were slapping on
paint in Kyle’s garage! In other words, I was right where I should be!
I reached a stopping point at 6 o’clock in the evening and then
headed to my mom’s to wash out my paint roller and brushes in her big utility
sink. Unfortunately, I had no time to visit with Mom because I had my sights set
on doing the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge (having someone dump a bucket of ice water
on your head and then you donate money to ALS research). My dear sister-in-law Cathy
nominated me to do the challenge within 24 hours, so tonight had to be the
night. I had several different people in mind to help me out with the pouring
and the videography, but I finally ended up at my daughter’s house to do the
deed. Robin was pleased (okay, more than pleased) to do the honors of dousing
me with ice cold water. Tyler would do the taping and Danny, Tyler’s “frother”,
would join me for the “fun”.
Take one! I had my speech semi-prepared,
Robin was ready with the bucket, Tyler had my phone ready to do the video and
Danny definitely owned the spirit of the moment. Unfortunately, my speech ran
over the 30-second time limit that I had set on my phone. Robin started dumping
and Danny and I were drenched with icy cold water…but there was no video of the
grand finale to be had.
Take two! Robin prepared another bucket of ice water. We had to move
the chairs under the street light to have enough light for the video. Then Tyler
was in a quandary about getting “dumped” or not. Finally, he caved. Then we had
to coax Robin’s neighbor girl to take the video. What a production! Then we were
set…Tyler, Danny and I were seated and Robin was behind us, ready with the bucket
of ice water. Hallie had my phone and was ready to shoot the video. Speech was
made, water was dumped, video was taken…grand finale and all! Success!
Was it worth the double-take? Well, it was double the fun and
double the memory. What do you think?
