Day 230 ~ “Chairitable” Pause

August 18, 2014

My Instead: I sat in a display chair and watched the “world go by” in a Target store.

Since I got the new tub/shower surround in my hall bath, I had been planning on painting the bathroom and vanity and redecorating with new rugs, a shower curtain and towels. But we all know about those “best laid plans”! Time keeps slipping away and my list of home projects keeps getting longer. So for some ungodly reason, I decided to go shopping and Target was as good of a place as any to take my money.
I meandered through the store with no real passion for shopping, but my car insisted on dragging me there. After about 15 minutes of searching for the bathroom accessories and not finding anyone to ask, I was fit to be tied. Well, not really “tied”, just “tired”. I was not in the mood for this, but honestly I was not in the mood for anything else! I guess you could say I was in a funk. Then, lo and behold, an inviting pink chair appeared before me as a display on an endcap. It was there to try out, right? And I did. And I did some more. This was the break I had been looking for! I sat and sat and watched the “world go by” in my neighborhood Target store.
As the minutes of my hiatus mounted up, I found myself in less and less of a hurry to continue with the shopping mission that I had come to accomplish. I watched people walk by and sometimes they watched back. Some were oblivious, some were amused, but none seemed annoyed. I called my sister Karen and talked to both my nephews, Connor and Aidan, about their first day of school. They were so excited and couldn’t wait to tell their Aunt Mary all about it. It was so refreshing to hear them tell their tales. My “time-out chair” came in handy as I rested and listened to these two young men grow up just a little bit more.
My life had been crazy busy with work and a new girlfriend and “insteads” and blogs. But after this small intermission, I realized that I needed to press the “pause” button a bit more often…and maybe even a bit more randomly.
Funk? What funk?
