My instead: I went to a
double feature at the local Skyview Drive-In Theater by myself.
It was a hard day “at
the office” and my last chore was cleaning out my neighbor’s gutters. At around 8:00 in the evening, I finally
climbed down off her roof. The plan was a late night date with yours truly at
the Skyview drive-in theater.
The evening was perfect.
A breeze blew over me through the open windows of my car and the bugs were off
duty warming up for the summer swarm. The
only thing missing was someone to share it with…okay, void acknowledged. But my
longing for a companion ended as my imaginary life on the screen began.
“Maleficent” (with
Angelina Jolie) had a surprising twist and “Blended” (with Adam Sandler and
Drew Barrymore) contained all the predictable turns that I’ve grown to love in
a chic flic. Both movies enabled me to vacate Belleville just long enough to
appreciate coming back.
As far as I can remember,
I hadn’t been to the drive-in since my kids were little. They’re grown and gone
now and I’m older and…well, I’m older. So many changes…and they have all joined
forces and have mercilessly left their imprints on my face! No worries. I have wonderful
memories to fill me up and an open range to create new ones.
