My instead: I
experienced Ball Park Village, right next to Busch Stadium and part of Cardinal
National.
It’s Friday the 13th
and a full moon was on the schedule. You can’t stay at home on a mystical night
like this, right? The day was beautiful and the evening was supposed to be just
as wonderful. Feeling like going to the game, I asked my friend Kelly if she
wanted to do that. She didn’t know if she would be off in time to get there at
game time. She suggested that we check out the brand new Ball Park Village. Hey, if
we couldn’t make the game, I was game for that!
We got to Ball
Park Village at dusk and the game was at full throttle next door at Busch
Stadium. It was awesome…and I rarely use that word. Everywhere we turned, the
game was showing on a big screen. If you’re not a Cardinal fan, you would be by
the time you left the village! We got something to eat at one of the
establishments inside. It was pretty tasty AND it was “reasonable” for Cardinal
fan food.
As we were finishing our
meals, the parade began. Cardinal fans
that had been to the game arrived in droves. What was once a comfortable crowd began
to resemble a mosh pit...not a place for a woman in her sixties and Kelly (soon
to be 50 in September) who was getting anxious by the minute. Time to execute our
exodus. By following the exit signs, we managed to navigate the maze of
corridors and various pubs.
Ahhhh. Outside at last
and the night was still absolutely perfect! We headed to the Metro Link to make
our trek back home. But wait a minute. There were bicycle riders with buggies attached
to their bikes giving people rides to their cars, other pubs or just to sightsee.
That is when we met Adrian. He was one of the bikers, brimming with charisma. Needless
to say, we hopped on board. Dodging around cars caught in traffic jams, we made
our way to the St. Louis Arch. What a ride! We asked a nice family to take a
photo and had so much fun encouraging Adrian to remain in the picture with us!
Oh what a night! Instead
of staying home after a long day of mowing lawns, I said yes to experience
Cardinal Nation at its best! I was part of the spirit without partaking of the “spirits”.
And I still had a great time…
