My instead: In order to
help my sister out, I delivered an ice cream wedding cake to Schlafley's Tap
Room for Cold Stone Creamery.
As we often do to catch
up with each other, my sister Karen and I chat on the phone while one (or both)
of us is driving to our respective destination. During one particular discussion,
she told me about her busy wedding weekend. Karen, her girlfriend Judy and her
girlfriend’s mother Joyce were all going to be busy with wedding catering for
their Cold Stone Creamery business.
Karen had concerns about
Joyce driving over to St. Louis with Karen’s two sons to deliver a wedding cake.
Listening to her and knowing Joyce’s timid nature, I became a little concerned
as well. I offered to watch the boys to make the trip less stressful for Joyce.
Karen and I continued to ponder and talk about Joyce executing this delivery.
It was her first one. Realizing that I had no plans for Saturday evening, I suggested
that I could make the wedding cake delivery. If it would help out and mean less
stress for all involved, I would do it. She got back with me first thing the
next day to take me up on my offer.
It’s funny how things
work out sometimes. After Karen and I worked out all the details about the St.
Louis wedding cake delivery, I got not one but two social invitations for
Saturday night on the Missouri side of the Mississippi. I’m in! Three birds knocked
out with one stone.
I was relatively on time
to Karen’s house to pick up some supplies and the directions. After their dog
attacked me and I got the stuff, I headed to the ice cream shop to get the ice
cream cake. No attacks there! I started the trek to St. Louis and got caught in
a torrential downpour. Visibility was limited…thank God I knew Highway 64 well
enough to figure out my choice of lanes. The end of the rain storm greeted me
as I pulled into Schlafley’s Tap Room parking lot. Another thank you, God. I walked the cake in without tripping…a plus.
I set it up without dropping it…so far so good. The wedding planners were helpful
and gracious…bonus! I left feeling proud and accomplished.
This was the right place
for me to be and the right thing for me to do. On to my reward. Party!
