My instead: I started to
clean up the unsightly foliage overgrowth from my neighbor's yard that has been
hanging over the street.
Spending a day on my knees
is worse than any penance I had ever gotten during my whole 12 years of a
Catholic education. But now 44 years later, the tile floor at my sister’s Cold Stone
Creamery needed to be re-grouted and what better way to atone for my past
indiscretions than to spend 6 ½ hours on all fours.
When I finished with
that activity, I went on to another client’s house to hang kitchen cupboard
doors that I had finished painting earlier in the week. I couldn’t let her wait
any longer to cover her cupboard openings. Procrastination during the past
month had run its course and it was time to “git ‘er done”.
As I pulled into my
driveway, my second wind took the wheel. It was 10:30 at night (yes, you read it
right) and I had one more task to tackle: trim the foliage overgrowth a couple yards
down on my street. This unsightly thicket has been an eyesore for years and my daily
“instead” had inspired me to end this Munster madness. I clipped and raked,
shoveled and stuffed…enough to jam pack two large garbage cans. And in the dim
light of the street, reality ran smack dab into my pride…I had only nipped it in
the bud; I had only scratched the surface; I had only begun the fight.
Looks like I’ll be a
lady of the evening in the nights to come…until the job is DONE.
