My instead: My grandson
and granddaughter had a campout with me in my bedroom.
Because of my bedroom
renovation earlier this year, my “master suite” is now twice the size. My sleeping
space can even accommodate a huge tent. Got tent and grandchildren…perfect
combination for an “inside out” camping event.
Having only put up my
tent a couple of times, I struggled with its assembly in this limited space. Let’s
face it, it’s not the great outdoors. Eventually though we were able to get it
constructed and stable without having to hammer stakes into my carpet! Tyler
and Abbey loved the spaciousness of the tent and were having a ball frolicking
inside. We managed to move the mattress from my futon into the tent. We
borrowed a little electric stove from my daughter to be our pseudo campfire. Pillows,
blankets and a flashlight were the last of the supplies to fetch. Now we were
set!
Our bellies were full
from our supper and ice cream cones from McDonald’s so the kids really didn’t want
a snack. We got our jammies on and just kind of settled in and started telling
stories. It was a nice bonding time for the three of us as we shared, laughed
and got sleepy together. Abbey can have a hard time being away from her mom,
but she did great that night. I think there was too much going on for her to
get homesick.
One of the wonderful
things about doing “firsts” is thinking of new activities with my grandkids. Not
that I’ve never done new and exciting things with them before, but now I am constantly
on a quest for new adventures that we can share and grow closer by doing.
I want to make a
difference in their lives as much as I can…maybe this little campout did just
that!
