Day 126 ~ Zoo Flirtations

May 6, 2014
My instead: I took my grandson Andy to the St. Louis Zoo.
My 2-year-old grandson Andy has already been to the St. Louis Zoo and I have been to that same zoo more times than I care to remember. But he and I have never been there together. Fortunately, I have the opportunity to watch Andy every other Tuesday, so I thought this would be the perfect adventure on a beautiful sunny day.
After dropping his brother and sister off at their respective schools, Andy and I headed across the river into Missouri. He was looking out his window and really checking out the city with its tall buildings…not what he was used to. We got to Forest Park and I eventually found my way to the zoo. Since the weather was perfect, the place was packed. I drove down this street looking for a parking spot and finally found one at the end of a trail of parked cars. We were probably a quarter of a mile away from the zoo entrance. I thought “bummer!” until I immediately reminded myself that I should appreciate the fact that I can walk this distance with no problem.
Andy was sleeping when we arrived at the zoo entrance, but I finally had to wake him up when it was time to see the stingrays. He wasn’t much into sticking his hand in the pool of water to pet them, so we left to check out the rest of the place. Andy was such a good boy traveling throughout the zoo in his stroller. Grandma liked it too. Thank God for strollers! While we ate lunch, he had most of his fun flirting with a little girl around his age. Well, maybe she was flirting more with him. But how could she not! Andy is a doll with his blue eyes and come-hug-me smile.
We rode the train a couple of times and Andy did his share of waving at everyone as if we were part of a parade. When we finally got back to the station where we had left the stroller (with the help of 2 very nice conductors), we headed out and back to the car. We drove back home to Illinois singing the ABCs until he got tired and fell fast asleep…just like his dad Kyle used to do every time he rode in a car. Déjà vu? Grandma thinks so…
