My instead: My grandson,
granddaughter and I went to Home Depot for their monthly children's workshop.
About 6 weeks ago, I
found out about these workshops that Home Depot has on the first Saturday of
each month. Bingo! There’s an “instead” right thar! I immediately texted my
daughter and daughter-in-law to let them know that I would be “borrowing” their
children on the first Saturday in May!
I arranged for Tyler and
Abbey to spend the night (see Blog for Day 122) with me so we could have a
leisurely fun morning and then head out to Home Depot for their workshop. We
walked in the place and it was pretty busy with lots of kids just a hammerin’
away at their little projects. I got the kids signed in and then they each received
a Home Depot apron and a packet with everything they needed for their job.
Tyler, of course, being
one of the older kids, knew right what to do so he got started. Abbey needed
some help from her grandma…but not much. She is a woman with a vision and can
be very focused when she wants to. They basically had to hammer 4 nails into a
small square platform to attach the legs, put a potted plant in the hole
provided and then place a foam flower onto a wooden stick and secure the stick
into the platform. It was kind of a neat little gift for Mother’s Day coming up
the next weekend. I was impressed with Home Depot’s idea and their whole format
for the workshop.
We got everything done
and then they were awarded with a certificate and a pin! A great ending to a
great activity. I definitely want to take them again and may even include Andy
(my 2 year old) the next time! That’ll be a hoot.
I love my grandkids…what
a blessing in my life! And doing these little activities with them is icing on
the cake. Thank you, God. Thank you.
