Day 298 ~ There'll Be No "Wining"

October 25, 2014

My Instead: I went to a winery with friends and did not drink alcohol.

The word on the street is that I’ve been to many a winery in my day. And for once, the word on the street is true. Laughter with friends, flowing wine, music playing, sunshine on my shoulders and the smell of autumn so strong in the air that you could taste it…those were the days of wine and memories.

But today was different. No wine (for me) until it’s time, as Orson Welles stated in Paul Masson Wine commercials years ago. And January 1st, 2015 (my year of no alcohol completed) was still over 2 months away.  But Charleville Vineyards was a nice place to sit and visit whether you imbibed in wine or not. My girlfriend Annette ordered a sampler tray of various beers and shared them with our friends, Annie and Jan. I just sipped on my root beer.

Our summer tan was not so tan anymore as we noticed our exposed skin turning pink. Ahhh…but the sun felt so good, especially knowing the all-too-familiar winter weather was just around the corner. All the patrons with whom we interacted were in good spirits, joking and laughing and occasionally exchanging picture-taking favors. It was a perfect day to just live in the moment.

The day was filled with friendship, food, and fun. Not drinking alcohol was a piece of cake for me. Cake? Did someone say “cake”? However, this hiatus from drinking has caused my sweet tooth to have a huge growth spurt. I just hope my rear end doesn’t follow suit.
