My Instead: I took my grandchildren Tyler and Abbey, along with Danny, to see the movie “Interstellar”.
Last night’s “spend the
night” turned into morning. Abbey and I woke up, continuing our girl talk from
the night before. Fifteen minutes into it, Tyler tapped on the door eager to
reclaim his spot by Grandma. He and I have shared many a morning together throughout the eleven and a half years since he became my first grand baby. As the three of us cuddled under the covers, I was reminded of what the
sign above my bedroom door says, “Just another day in paradise”.
When Danny arose and our
fast was broken, the Monopoly game was brought out again. Seriously? Why can’t
they be this enthusiastic about Charades or Pictionary? Ugh. I let them play
their little strategic money game, while I busied myself figuring out which
movie we would go see. I showed them the trailers to two different movies: “The
Theory of Everything” and “Interstellar”. I really wanted to see the former so,
of course, they wanted to see the latter. “Interstellar” it was! Walt Disney,
move over! This isn’t kid stuff anymore.
We arrived at Edge 5 Theatres,
purchased our tickets, popcorn and drinks and then followed the directions to the
theater where our movie was showing. I was more curious to see if Abbey would
stay interested in the movie than I was in seeing the movie itself. I figured
the boys would be fine with our sci-fi choice. It turned out that Danny was the
antsiest, asking to use the restroom a total of four times. Come on! I’m a
62-year-old grandma that has birthed three babies and I made it through with
just one bathroom visit!
After the movie, I had
just one question for Abbey: Which movie did you like better, “Frozen” or “Interstellar”?
She pondered and then said “Equal”. I couldn’t believe it! We piled into my car,
then came the questions and they were mostly from Abbey! After dropping the
boys off first at their house, I drove Abbey to hers. Still the questions! No
complaints from me though…I love a thinker. I just wish I could have been in
her head to see the thought process that triggered each question.
My home and I connected
again…I hear the ticking of the clock now.
