My Instead: Annette and I had dinner with Kelli (her ex) and Kelli's girlfriend Karen.
Since Annette and I have
become such the shoppers (NOT), we found ourselves shopping on this beautiful
Sunday afternoon. I wanted to find a sofa sleeper for my front bedroom…something
comfy while still providing a bed for my house guests. During our furniture
shopping excursion, I realized that I may have some difficulty getting a couch
into the room because of the close quarters in my hallway. No sale today, boys, until
I take some measurements back home!
While we were out and
about, Annette arranged for her ex-girlfriend Kelli and Kelli’s girlfriend
Karen to meet us for dinner. We usually see them out where the music’s blaring
and the dancing is in full swing, so I was looking forward to getting to know
them better with this smaller and quieter assembly. Annette and I arrived first
at Tavern on Main in Belleville. Kelli and Karen got there about twenty minutes
later, but that’s okay. After all, they were coming all the way over to this side
of the river and it’s a much longer trip than going from Belleville to St.
Louis…or so they think over in St. Louis. It’s a standing joke for us Illinoisans.
Just so you know, I love having intimate
conversations with people, discovering that people have so much of themselves
to share. Then perceptions change…it’s unavoidable.
Fortunately, getting to know people in this way is a reminder to me that there
are a lot of good people in this world. Kelli and Karen are two of them!
All I have to do is just let people in and then open
myself up to them. Knead with honesty and I’m never left with a bad taste in my
mouth.
