Day 305~ Neti Pot for Nettie

November 1, 2014

My Instead: I did a Neti Pot treatment on my mom to help relieve her painful sinus infection.

My mom had a really painful sinus infection. During the previous night’s Halloween festivities, I promised her that I would come over the next day to do a Neti Pot treatment. My thought was that it couldn’t hurt and that it might relieve some of her pain.
My mom’s name is Jeanette and oftentimes in her youth, she was nicknamed Nettie. I even call her that sometimes when I’m feeling silly. Anyway, this Neti Pot treatment seemed to take on a whole new meaning because today it was one just for Nettie!
That morning Mom had to go to a close friend’s funeral services. She felt awful and I mean awful. I encouraged her not to go, but she was going no matter what. My mission was to get this Neti Pot treatment done so she would feel somewhat better and then be on her way. I prepared the salt water solution and began the procedure. Putting the spout to her nostril caused her excruciating pain and I felt so bad, but I was on a mission. Her doctor called shortly thereafter and said that the Neti Pot was a good idea. I felt better knowing that I was not doing something that would kill my mother!
Her doctor called in a prescription to Walgreens so my next mission was a trip to the pharmacy. Before I left, I gave her a warm compress for her to hold to the side of her face…anything to relieve her pain. Opon my return, I gave her another treatment with saline solution I had purchased that was specifically for Neti Pots. Again, Mom was miserable during the treatment. After that she took her antibiotic and was off on her own mission to attend the services of her dear friend.
How many times was Mom my nursemaid in the past? All the earaches, all the asthma attacks, all the bouts of flu, all the injuries. Now it’s my turn.
